Irene Christine Arrington Forbes, 94, of Rocky Mount, Va., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 16, 2009. She was born on June 26, 1914, to the late Sallie Frith Arrington and Landon Warfee Arrington. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas McKinley Forbes; one son, Claude Thomas Forbes; and one daughter-in-law, Betty Walker Forbes. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Betty, Elma, and Ressie; and three brothers, Jimmy, Malcolm, and Maynard. She is survived by two sons and daughter-in-laws, Norman and Emily Forbes, of Bassett, and Larry and Carolyn Forbes, of Rocky Mount; nine grandchildren, Keith and Regina Forbes, of Lynchburg, Tom and Susan Forbes, of Pulliman, Wash., Scott Forbes, of Roanoke, Lee and Kim Forbes, of Collinsville, James and Lisa Forbes, of Bassett, Mark Forbes, of Bassett, Trina and Darrell Snead, of Bassett, Bryan and Amy Forbes, of Boones Mill, and Betsy and Todd Hill, of Rocky Mount; 18 greatgrandchildren; one great-greatgrandchild; and two stepgreatgrandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. on Friday, June 19, 2009, from Flora Funeral Chapel with the Rev. David Long and the Rev. T. Ivey Adams officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Her family will be receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2009, at Flora Funeral Service, Rocky Mount and at other times at the home of Larry and Carolyn Forbes.
