Mary was the second and only daughter of five children. Mary Neal grew up in Leon, Limestone and Freestone counties and graduated from high school in Donie, Texas.
She married Felix Spurgeon Ainsworth June 4, 1936.
In December, 1940, they and their two daughters moved to Velasco, Texas. Mary Neal worked many years as a substitute teacher for the Brazosport Independent School District as well as teaching kindergarten and home economics. She also worked for the Sears order office in Freeport.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, parents, brothers Jimmy Lee, Billy Jean and Robert George Collins, sisters-in-law Nancy Collins and Jacqueline Merrell, and son-in-law Ed Brown.
She is survived by her daughters Marian Ann Brown of Lake Jackson, Norma Sue (Kenneth) Benson of Columbia, Missouri; seven grandchildren: Daniel Robert (Nancy) Brown of Houston, Denise Ann (Travis) West of Richwood, Dena Leanne (Don) McClure of Bellaire, Lisa Virginia (Paal) Tidemandsen of Oslo, Norway, Kathryn Neal (Brian) Benson-Brown of Columbia, Missouri, David Kenneth (Susan) Benson of Greenwood, Arkansas, and Michael Ainsworth (Sarah) Benson of Overland Park, Kansas. She is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren: Marshall Travis, Erik Wayne and Jenna Michelle West; Geoffrey Neal, Daniel Austin and Victoria Ann Brown; Ulrik Tidemandsen; Haley Blaise and Abram Felix Benson-Brown; Anna Eileen, Emily Grace and Luke Thomas Benson; Jake Andrew, Ainsley Elizabeth and William Nathaniel Benson; one brother, John Wayne Collins of Waco, two sisters-in-law, Lolita Collins of Elkhart and Doris Collins of Chilton
