Funeral Took Place Last Sunday Afternoon
Survived By a Number of Relatives Among Them Being Dick J. and N.R. Wilcox
The funeral of the late Lillie E. Penland, who died at Portola, Cal. November 14, was held from the residence of her brother, Dick J. Wilcox, Sunday afternoon. The body arrived Friday evening and was accompanied by her husband, John M. Penland, and Mr. and Mrs. Shellhammer, the latter being a daughter.
Mrs. Penland was born near Grass Valley, Cal., nearly 50 years ago, being 49 years, 10 months and 15 days of age at the time of her death. Surviving members of the family besides her widower and daughter Mrs. Shellhammer, are two other daughters, Mrs. Lily Layton and Miss Mary Penland, both of Portola, and one son, Dick G., of Ukiah, Cal. One sister and four brothers also survive, the sister being Mrs. Bertha Shellhammer, and four brothers, E. E. Wilcox, Colusa, cal., F. W. of Grants Pass, and Dick J. and N. R. of Lakeview.
Mrs. Penland resided in this section for a number of years, having been married in Drews Valley in 1892. About 20 years ago she and her family removed to California and resided in that state since that time.
The funeral was attended by a large number of friends of the family, all of whom extend their synpathy to the bereaved ones.
