Mabel G. (Dillinger) Rose of Troy, OH, formerly of Athens, OH died on Saturday, October 11, 2008. She was born on October 30, 1907 to the late Charles and Ella (Robinson) Dillinger. She was married for over 50 years to Ray Rose who also preceded her in death.
She graduated from Canaanville High School. She went to work as the first woman hired by the first Athens Kroger store. She helped her husband run a Sohio gasoline station on Richland Avenue where the Hocking River now runs. She ran a small business selling neighbors milk and eggs from their mini farm and later worked for Farley's Washateria. Mabel enjoyed reading, crocheting and especially quilt making for her family and church mission. She was a member of the Clarks Chapel Church of Athens, a 50 plus year member of Athens Order of Eastern Star and the Troy Senior Citizens.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Maxine and Russell Smith of Troy, OH, three grandchildren; Cassandra and Bill Myers; Keely and Rick Quillen of Troy, OH and Kevin and Christine Smith of Columbus, OH; three great grandchildren; Michael Quillen, Daniel Myers and Stephanie Quillen Williams; three great-great grandsons, Malachi and Lavante Williams and Elijah Quillen also of Troy, OH.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, John Dillinger, Oscar Dillinger, Henry Dillinger and Charles Dillinger; three sisters, Jennie Walls, Helen Walls and Maude Duncan.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00AM Saturday, October, 18, 2008 at the Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, 24 Morris, Athens, OH 45701, by Rev. Edward Sensenbrenner. Burial will follow in Athens Memory Gardens. Friends and family may visit one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
