Charley was a very hard working man and held jobs in many occupations. Shortly after his marriage to Nella he worked for the WPA and railroad. He then took a job with Blackwell Zinc but with the outbreak of WWII he moved his family to the west coast to help the war effort in the defense plants.
Soon after the war ended, the family returned to Oklahoma and Kay county. They lived for some years in and around the Ponca City area. He was a farm hand on Cranes dairy for a while then went to work for Groendyke Transport Inc.. Around 1952, they returned to Blackwell and he went to work for the glass plant and then the flour mill. About 1962 the family moved to California, where he worked in heavy construction, and primarily on the Oroville and Bullards-Bar dams in the state's north-central mountains. They moved back to Oklahoma about 1968 and then managed the Derby Station. After his health started failing, Nella and he decided to apply to the Army Corp of Engineers to work as gate keepers on the lakes. They did this for a few years and he was really in what you call "hog heaven". His favorite pass time was fishing and making friends, which this job did both for him.
