Gene was employed by Shaw-Walker in Muskegon for 17 years until his retirement 1n 1977. Prior to that, he had been a truck driver and a service station attendant.
On May 31,1945 Gene married the former Rosella Brown. She survives him ( deceased 17 Oct 2017 ) along with their 4 children. Gene and Rose were married for 64 happy years. Their children are, Eugene Hower Jr., Gladys Lazano, James Hower ( Now deceased ) and Roger Hower. Gene's only sister, Daisy Knollinger (Hill) of Whitehall, MI passed away on 9/16/2009. Gene was survived by a sister in-law, Alida Hower. (deceased March 13, 2014 )
Gene was preceded in death by his brothers, Leroy Hower, and Donald Hower.
Gene was a head usher in his Church at Calvery Memorial Church of North Muskegon. He also later attended the Church of the Nazarene in Grand Haven, where He and Rose lived for the past several years.
Gene's second love was woodworking, furniture making, anything he could build with tools and his hands. He had numerous grand children and many great granchildren , and great, great grand children.
Gene was always a happy, upbeat type of person. Always had a story to tell about the old days, any time some one would hint that they wanted to hear one. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him. The world was a better place because of him.
Updated 06/25/2018. Gene and wife Rosella were both cremated and were buried together at Oakwood ( AKA Holton ) Cemetery, in Holton, Muskegon County, Michigan, USA. This took place on 31 May 2018. The significance of this date was that it was their 73rd wedding anniversary... together again and forever.
