Ronald V. Ford, 89, of Mesick died Thursday, June 11, 2009 at Bortz Health Care of Traverse City.

Ronald was born Dec. 25, 1919 in Winn, the son of Ernest and Mary (Jaquish) Ford. He graduated from Mesick High School in 1938 and went on to serve his country as a soldier in the US Army during World War II. He earned his Bachelor's Degree from Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant and his Master's Degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Ronald worked as a schoolteacher in Muskegon, Missaukee and Wexford counties and had served as the superintendent of Buckley Community Schools.

Ronald was active in the Antioch Bible Church. He was a member of the Mesick Lions Club and the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel. In his spare time, Ronald enjoyed woodcarving and spending time with his family.

On June 2, 1944, Ronald married Vera May Peterson, who survives him. He is also survived by his son, Ronald D. (Marcia) Ford of Mesick; two grandsons, Chad (Melissa) Ford of Mesick and Cameron (Jennifer) Ford of Elizabethtown, Ky.; four great-grandchildren, Victoria, Tanner and Cooper Ford of Mesick and Tyler Ford of Elizabethtown, Ky.; his sister, Doris Sherburne of Mesick and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ronald was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Clarence Ford; an infant sister; his brother-in-law, Dalton Sherburne and his sister-in-law, Phyllis Ford.
