"Ace" Darrell Kenneth Abbott, age 67, passed away Friday, July 11, 2008 from complications of heart failure.

He was born January 28, 1941 to Kenneth N. Abbott and Fern Mae Wretberg in Salt Lake City. He was the oldest of three children. He graduated from West High School in 1959. Married Kathleen Tanner, March 16, 1962 in the Salt Lake Temple. Their union produced three children: Janice, Nancy, and Jim.

Darrell worked as a truck driver for Parker-Abbott Transfer and for Western Pacific Transport. He loved driving truck and even though his career was cut short because of illness he was always proud to say he was a truck driver. Darrell's work ethic will long be remembered by his family. He truly was an honorable man with a kind heart and a gentle spirit. Darrell will be remembered for the inspiration that he was throughout his trials. His daily walking was an example to many of his inner-strength and perseverance, and added years to his life. His quality of life was enhanced by his friends, the "lunch bunch", Ron and Richard. Darrell often spoke fondly of fishing trips and vacations taken with LeRoy and Jill. He never faltered in his willingness to share his love and generosity.

Darrell is survived by his wife, Kathleen; his sister, Karen (Kerry) Hamblin; three children: Janice (Duane) Gadd; Nancy (Robert) Ellison; James Darrell (Marie) Abbott; four grandchildren: Amy and Danielle Gadd; Tanner and Chase Ellison. Preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Blaine.
