Joseph Yarwood
The last chapter in the life history of another pioneer of this district, Joseph Yarwood, has been closed, with the coming of death from a stroke, Friday, Oct 21, 1938 in Mohler. Born in Malwarth Co, WI, Nov 8, 1858, Mr. Yarwood moved with his parents to CA and in 1880 to Walla Walla, WA, and that fall he homesteaded the farm six miles northwest of Harrington. In 1882 he married Kelly Cochet (edit: Catherine S Corbett) of Walla Walla and one son, Jesse, was born to them. In 1887 his wife died and in 1895 he married Nettie Patty (edit: Mary Catherine Bernetti Patty). For the past 45 years he has been engaged in general mercantile business. Mr. Yarwood became a Christian in 1894 becoming converted at Army Hall at Griffith, between Mohler and Ritzville. He joined the Methodist church in 1905. Surviving are his widow, Nettie; 5 sons, Jesse, Fred, Leslie, John and David; 2 daughters, Mrs. Grace Roske and Mrs. Clyde Burge; one brother, Ed Yarwood. Four brothers and one sister, all known by early day settlers in this district, Eli, Dave, Henry and Wilbur and Lizzie, have preceded Mr. Yarwood in death.
