Gerald W. Bennett
Gerald Wayne Bennett, 64, Topeka, died Thursday, Dec. 20, at a Topeka hospital.
Mr. Bennett was a Postal Service motor vehicle operator 27 years. He retired in January 1981. He was an Army veteran of World War II, having served in Europe.
He was born Feb. 26, 1920, at Chanute, the son of Charles Day and Bessie Grace Cation Bennett. He lived in Topeka since 1948.
Mr. Bennett was a member of Philip Billard Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1650 and Capitol Post No. 1 of the American Legion.
He was married to Thelma Myers Jan. 16, 1946, at Topeka. She died April 24, 1983.
Survivors include two sons, James W. Bennett and Steven E. Bennett, both of Topeka; his mother, Mrs. Bessie Bennett, Chanute; a sister, Mrs. Evelyn Hosfelt in Texas; a brother, Clifford C. Bennett, Wichita; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Newcomer-Diffenderfer Funeral Home. Military graveside services will be conducted by Cecil J. Meeker Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1654 in Leanna Cemetery northeast of Chanute. Mr. Bennett will lie in state until service time at the funeral home.
