Mr. Kay served in the U.S. Army 44th Infantry Division during World War II. In 1970, he retired form St. Julian Ammunition Depot in Portsmouth, Va. He moved to the Cameron area and opened the Dunrovin Shoe Center. He was known as the "Shoe Man" and ran the store for 14 years. He was a long time member of Cameron Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and the superintendent of Sunday school. He was a lifetime member of the AMVETS and was a member of the Vass Lion's Club.

Mr. Kay was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Mazel (Thornburg) Kay, as well as his siblings, James W. Kay and Dorothy K. Cummins.
