Charles Earl Bennett Battle Creek Charles Earl Bennett, 87, died at Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence on Sunday, June 7, 2009. He was born in Reedly, California to Charles E. and Nancy A. (Renfro) Bennett on December 5, 1921. When he was a small child, he moved with his family to Battle Creek, MI, where he was raised and attended Battle Creek Public Schools. Charles joined the U. S. Navy and served during WWII aboard the USS Grandville, a Liberty ship. After WWII he returned to Battle Creek and worked as a millwright at the Kellogg Company for 38 years, retiring July 13, 1979. Charles married Edna E. Green on February 19, 1940 in Ohio. Surviving are Edna, his wife of 69 years, three sons, Raymond (Betty) Bennett of Interlachen, FL, Ronald (Patricia) Bennett of Ceresco and Roger (Susan) Bennett of Battle Creek; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and their families. Earl, as his family called him, was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters. Charles was a member of the Kellogg 25 Year Club. He enjoyed spending the summers at Fine Lake with his family, being outdoors, camping, hunting and fishing. Charles loved traveling and vacationing with Edna in the Upper Peninsular and throughout the country. At the request of the family, friends may call after 6:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home where they will be received 6:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services to celebrate Charles' life will be held at the funeral home 1:00 p.m. Wednesday June 10, 2009. Interment will follow at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice Care. Personal messages for the family may be placed at www.farleyestesdowdle.com.
