MRS. INEZ WILLS COUNCILL
Mrs. Inez Wills Councill, well-known resident of Franklin for many years, passed away at noon on Tuesday, July 17, in the Home for Confederate Women, Richmond. She was in her 83rd year.
Mrs. Councill was the daughter of the late Capt. I.C. Wills and Mrs. Margaret L. Wills of Southampton County and Franklin, and widow of Judson C. Councill, a native of Isle of Wight County. Their union was blessed with two children, a daughter, Rebie, who became Mrs. Oscar W. Gills of Bedford and a son, Godwin Councill of Newport News, both of whom preceded their mother in death.
She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Lucy W. Robertson of Miami, Fla., and Mrs. J.R Knight of Franklin; one grandson, Oscar W. Gills, Jr., of Roanoke; two granddaughters, Mrs. George F. Abele of Hilton Village and Mrs. R. O. Dodge of Beechwood, N.J.; and a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Elizabeth Harmon Councill, of Beechwood, N.J.
Funeral services were held at the grave in the family plot in Poplar Spring Cemetery on Wednesday afternoon at 5 o'clock, with Rev. R.D. Stephenson officiating. Active pallbearers were E.T. FitzGerald, Robert O. Hayes, J.P. King, H.B. McLemore, Jr., J. Edward Moyler, L.B. Norfleet, George O. Watkins and H.L. Westbrook.
