This person was the son of William Jefferson Whipple and Martha E. Naylor per edit from Barbara O. #47314130. I found a son named Rolland Watson Whipple born May 23, 1876 in Indiana to these parents. I have added the link per Barbara's edit. I will leave the YOB as 1875 as that is what is indicated on the stone. I have added the month and dates from information on Rolland Watson Whipple and the remainder of the bio reflects that person.

Rolland W. Whipple was age 33 residing in the household of William J. and Martha E. Whipple, ages 73 and 67 in Democrat, Carroll County Indiana in 1910. He had a sibling in the household, Cline N. age 24. Rolland was single and working as a painter. His brother was also single and working as a machinist in the auto shop. The father William was a blacksmith born in Indiana, Father born Rhode Island and Mother born Indiana. She had given birth to 10 children with 8 living.

When his father died in 1922 Rolland was not in the obit as a survivor. William was survived by two brothers and a grandson Fred Whipple. That may have been a local notice and did not list survivors living outside the area. If this is the correct William J. Whipple, he had a number of surviving children in 1922.

He married Rosannah "Rose" Shakes, daughter of John Jr. and Mary Margaret (Metcalf) Plake. It was her second marriage. I could not find a marriage record but they were married in the 1920 census and her son Sanford was living with them in Wayne Michigan. Watson Whipple was age 43 and a construction carpenter and wife Rose was 46. Her son Sanford was age 21 and a machinist in the auto factory and his wife Margaret was same age and working as a telegrapher.
