Rolland W. Whipple was age 33 residing in the household of William J. and Martha E. Whipple, ages 73 and 67 in Democrat, Carroll County Indiana in 1910. He had a sibling in the household, Cline N. age 24. Rolland was single and working as a painter. His brother was also single and working as a machinist in the auto shop. The father William was a blacksmith born in Indiana, Father born Rhode Island and Mother born Indiana. She had given birth to 10 children with 8 living.
When his father died in 1922 Rolland was not in the obit as a survivor. William was survived by two brothers and a grandson Fred Whipple. That may have been a local notice and did not list survivors living outside the area. If this is the correct William J. Whipple, he had a number of surviving children in 1922.
He married Rosannah "Rose" Shakes, daughter of John Jr. and Mary Margaret (Metcalf) Plake. It was her second marriage. I could not find a marriage record but they were married in the 1920 census and her son Sanford was living with them in Wayne Michigan. Watson Whipple was age 43 and a construction carpenter and wife Rose was 46. Her son Sanford was age 21 and a machinist in the auto factory and his wife Margaret was same age and working as a telegrapher.
