Aviation Cadet E. W. Biros, USNR, was designated Naval Aviator #5524 in 1937. He entered the service via the pre-war Aviation Cadet (AVCAD) program.

Lieutenant Commander Biros was the commanding officer (CO) of Fighting Squadron (VF) Fourteen operating from the aircraft carrier USS WASP (CV-18) at the time of his loss in the Western Pacific.

Awarded the Silver Star (Posthumously} for his action and leadership against enemy aerial forces on 04 July 1944 in operations over the Volcano Islands.
