Eleanor (Gavalis) Stupcenski-Howe, 91, died on Tuesday (May 19, 2009) at St. Francis Hospital.

She was born September 16, 1917 in Philadelphia, PA, daughter of the late Eugene and Anna (Galaskas) Gavalis and had lived in Collinsville for 17 years prior to moving to Simsbury over 58 years ago.

Mrs. Stupcenski-Howe was a security checker for Sage Allen in Hartford for 17 years prior to her retirement in 1991. She was a member of St. Mary's Church, Simsbury, and the AARP.

She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Chester F. Stupcenski, Jr. of Brunswick, GA and Robert J. and Jean Stupcenski of Enfield; a daughter, Virginia Cromer of Massachusetts; a sister, Rose Marie Wallack of Avon; her longtime companion, Jim Vaitulevich of Simsbury; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Chester F. Stupcenski, Sr. and two brothers, Eugene and Edwin Gavalis.

Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury, on Friday, May 22, 2009 from 4-6 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2009 at 9:15 a.m. from the Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Simsbury.

Burial will be in Simsbury Cemetery.
