Idella "Della" Louise Luce Ardis, of Charleston, departed this world May 29, 2009.

Della, daughter of Ethel Larsen Luce and Ralph E. Luce, was born on April 9, 1928 in Charleston, SC.

She was a graduate of Murray Vocational School. Della wed Marion on January 31, 1947, celebrating their 61st anniversary prior to his death. They had eight children.

She worked as a secretary in various businesses in Charleston before relocating to Florence, SC. In Florence, she was an administrative assistant for Heritage Nursing Home returning to Charleston in May of 2002.

Della participated in women's softball and various bowling leagues throughout the years. Her favorite past time was watching the Atlanta Braves baseball and playing Scrabble.

She was a life member and past president of Charleston Rifle Club Ladies Auxiliary.

Della was the widow of Joseph Marion Ardis and is survived by three daughters: Nancy L. Greene and husband David of Roswell, GA, Carol A. Davis and husband Linwood of Charleston and Judy L. Turner of Bishopville, SC; two sons: David A. Ardis and Ronald E. Ardis, both of Florence; one sister, Katherine L. Matson and sister in law, Teresa M. Zwingmann, both of Charleston; fourteen grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren, a niece and two nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, husband, sons, Joseph M. Ardis, Jr. and John P. Ardis and daughter, Donna M. Williams.
