GERALD LAVERNE McDONALD
Gerald Laverne McDonald, little son of William and Lesta McDonald, was born in Lucas county, Iowa, on April 15, 1916 and passed away at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines on Sept. 5, 1925, aged 9 years, 1 month and 20 days.
He was in perfect health until Aug. 28th when he and some of his playmates were playing with a little calf, and the calf kicked little Gerald on the forehead between the eyes, rendering him unconscious for a time. Medical aid was immediately summoned and for a week he seemed to be recovering, but at the end of that time it was thought necessary to take him to the hospital where he grew worse and passed away in a short time, lockjaw having developed.
The immediate relatives who are left to mourn for him are his father, mother, sister, Atha, brothers, Everett, Harry and Asa. There are many other friends and loved ones who will greatly miss him.
His little form was brought to his home on the day following and largely attended funeral services, conducted by Rev. Robert Bingaman, of Chariton, assisted by Rev. Holliday were held from the Coal Glen church on Monday afternoon, after which the little one was laid to rest in the Coal Glen cemetery.
A host of friends gathered with the loved ones to show their last tribute of respect for little Gerald and manifest their sympathy to the bereaved ones.
