Robert P. 'Bob' Abbott, 65 GORHAM - Robert P. 'Bob' Abbott, 65, of White Rock Drive, died unexpectedly on Feb. 5, 2009. Born and raised in Waterboro, he was the son of Percy H. and Ellen E. (Noyes) Abbott. Bob was educated in schools of Waterboro and Sanford, and was a 1962 graduate of Sanford High School. He furthered his education, attending the National School of Meat Cutting, in Toledo, Ohio, graduating from there in 1963 becoming a meat cutter, a profession he was employed in for the rest of his working career. In 1966, during the Viet Nam War, Bob was drafted into the United States Marine Corp, serving on active duty until January of 1968. On April 26, 1968, Bob married Dorothy A. Wight. As a family, they settled in the White Rock area of Gorham and have been part of that community ever since. Over the years, Bob had been employed as a meat cutter for IGA and Shaw's Supermarkets before going to work for Hannaford Supermarkets, where he retired in 2005 after 20 years of service. For the last several years, Bob was employed for the Windham Butcher Shop. He was a member of Fraternal Lodge #55 AF & AM in Alfred, a member of the American Legion, Post # 197, of Westbrook and he was baptized at the White Rock Free Baptist Church, in Gorham. Interest included hunting and traveling with his wife. Together they traveled throughout the southern United States as well as Hawaii. He enjoyed NASCAR and his twice annual trips to the New Hampshire Speedway. Ricky Craven, Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt Jr. were among his favorite drivers. Most of all, Bob loved to spend time with his family and always looked forward to time spent with his grandchildren. Beside his parents, two brothers, George and John Abbott as well a one sister, C. Ann Abbott have predeceased him. Survivors include his wife of 40 years and the love of his life, Dorothy A. Abbott, of Gorham; two daughters, Christine E. Butler and her husband Bill and Cynthia E. Tanguay and her husband Jeff all of Gorham; one sister, Audrey Flood, of Vernon, Conn.; his four beloved grandchildren, Sydney Butler, Jordyn Tanguay, Kyley Butler and Keltan Tanguay, all of Gorham; one uncle, Sam Abbott, of Waterboro and one aunt, Helen Abbott, of Old Orchard Beach. . Burial will be in the spring at Sapling Hill Cemetery, Gorham.
