Rebecca Loretta youngest daughter of Margaret Ann McGann and Nichaet Viertz was born in Adams county near Nevinville, Iowa on November 11, 1899 and passed away at the Clarke County Hospital September 26, at the age of 78 years, 10 months and 13 days.

She moved with her family to a farm near Woodburn at the age of 9 years where she grew to womanhood. She attended school in the county and normal school for 9 years.

On December 26, 1916 she was united in marriage to Harry Ancel Duree at the Sacred Heart Rectory in Chariton, Iowa. They lived in Woodburn for 4 years, moving to Ottumwa for a short time, when they moved to Hedrick for 5 years. In 1927 they returned to the Woodburn community where she has since made her home.

Eight children were born to the union, 3 sons, L. Joe of St. Paul, Minnesota; Leo of Chariton, Ralph of Davenport and 5 daughters, Laurene Smith of Garden Grove, Betty Swan of Osceola, Wylla Burgus of Murray, Theresa Patterson of Lucas and Naomie Sly of Davenport.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters, 1 brother and 1 granddaughter. Those left to mourn her passing besides her beloved husband, Harry and the above named children are 27 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 3 daughters-in-law; 5 sons-in-law, sister Nellie Fitzpatrick of Chariton, along with several nephews, nieces, cousins and a host of friends.

They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1966 with all their family present.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Alter and Rosary Society and the Community Club, which she enjoyed and always took part as long as her health permitted.

Rebecca was a willing helper to anyone in need and will be kindly remembered by all who knew her.

The rosary was said at the Webster Funeral Home Friday evening at 8 o'clock.The funeral mass was held at St. Mary's Catholic Church at 10 o'clock Saturday a. m. September 28 with Fr. John Lorenz officiating. Burial was in the Catholic Cemetery at Woodburn.
