Wife of Buckley Burnham Anderson and daughter of (John?) Alpheus and Lois Lathrop Cutler. Oftentimes referred to as "Sally," a nickname she carried since childhood. She died at Lebeck, MO, November 27th, 1890, at eight a. m. of dropsy; aged 72 years, 2 months, 18 days.
"She was born September 9th, 1818, in Lisle, Broome County, NY; moved in the spring of 1834, to Kirtland, OH, and was present at the dedication of the LDS Temple; moved with her parents to Ray County, MO, in 1836; December 31, 1837, married B. B. Anderson; passed through the trials and persecutions in Missouri in 1838-9; in the spring of 1839, moved to Illinois; the winter of 1840, went to Nauvoo; in the summer of 1846, moved to Winter Quarters, near Florence, NE; moved to Manti, IA, in 1849; united with the Reorganized Church in 1863, being baptized by W. W. Blair. In 1867, moved to Clitherall, Otter Tail County, MN. Returned to live in Missouri in the late 1800s, passing away in 1890.
Sarah was the mother of thirteen children, six of whom have crossed the bar, leaving five sons and two daughters, 31 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren to mourn her loss.
Through all the trials and persecutions of the church in its early days, her faith was strengthened and her spirit purified by them, and now she has gone to her reward. Truly, a mother in Israel is gone.
I have known Sister Anderson for over 15 years and, when examining the claims of the Latter Day Saints, she gave me much valuable knowledge and has strengthened my faith in the truth. Her hands were ever outstretched to help the weak and sorrowing and to bring back the erring. Her home was always open to the Saints, and the wants of the traveling Elders were supplied." Gravesite Details
Her gravemarker is lost to history. From the memories of her granddaughter, Laura Rosalee Anderson Bowerman, observed onsite in 1981, she remembered the plots of her grandparents to have been in SE area of the existing cemetery.
