Lois Yates Turner
(July 27, 1927 - May 3, 2009)
Mrs. Lois Yates Turner, age 81, of Savannah, formerly of East McCarty St. in Sandersville, died Sunday, May 03, 2009 at the Hospice of Savannah. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00am at the Sisters Baptist Church with burial in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery near Warthen. Rev. Phillip Ford and Rev. Roy Smith will officiate. Pallbearers will be Garrison Cook, Derric Cook, Louis Dalton, Jeffery Smith, Powell Griffith, Michael Yates, Matthew Yates, and Shawn Newsome.
Mrs. Turner was a native of Washington County the daughter of the late Maurice Linton Yates and the late Ida Brown Yates. She was a retired educator for fifty years formerly working for the Washington County Board of Education and retiring from the Georgia Department of Youth Services. Mrs. Turner was a member of the Sisters Baptist Church and the Philathea Sunday School Class. She was also a charter member of the Washington County Pilot Club, a member of the Warthen Town and Country Club and a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority. Her husband John William Turner predeceases her.
Survivors are her son Tony Turner (Nichole) of Savannah, grandchildren, Noah Turner, Noelle Pearson, Christian Pearson, Natalie Pearson and nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8pm at the May and Smith Funeral Directors, 1119 Riddleville Road, Sandersville, Georgia.
