ALICE MAE METZ, of 142 Buttercup Drive, Hagerstown, died Saturday, Feb. 20, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Jan. 18, 1922, in Waynesboro, Pa., she was the daughter of the late William Garfield and Nellie Creager Groshon.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lauren M. Ridge, who died in 1950.
She was retired in 1984 from Washington County Hospital as assistant director of nursing.
She was in the Cadet Nurses Corps during World War II.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church for over 50 years.
She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Queen Esther No. 3 and Daughters of the Nile. She was a member and past president of Washington County Hospital Nursing Association.
She is survived by her second husband, Elmer P. Metz Sr.; one son, William Melvin Ridge of Midwest City, Okla.; one stepson, Elmer P. Metz, Jr. of Sunset Beach, N.C.; one sister, Helen Biesecker of Waynesboro; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, 712 W. Church St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Robert S. Barton and the Rev. Darryl Zoller will officiate. Burial will be in Harbaugh's Cemetery, Rouzerville, Pa.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, where Order of the Eastern Star Queen Esther No. 3 will have a memorial service at 7:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 712 West Church St., Hagerstown, MD 21740 or Washington County Hospital School of Nursing Alumna Association Scholarship Fund, c/o Mrs. Fran Fox, 13023 Woodburn Drive, Hagerstown, MD 21742.
