Ruth Frances Mills Clark, 80, of Roanoke, passed away Sunday, May 24, 2009. Ruth was born in Franklin County on June 26, 1928. Ruth is preceded in death by her father Alonza Mills, her mother, Susie Beckner Mills, her grandson, Michael Clark, and her daughter, Rhonda Herrman. Ruth is greatly loved and will be missed by her husband of 64 years, James Edward Clark, Sr.; her three loving sons, Gary Clark and wife, Martha, James "Duke" Clark and wife, Sue and her children, Becky and Crystal, and Kenny Clark and wife, Fay. She is also survived by her devoted daughter, Shirley Boone and her husband, Charles and his children, Dena Bowman and Ward Boone. Ruth was a wonderful grandmother to six grandchildren, Suzanne Kelley, Rebecca Gibson, Tracy Clark, Tommy Herrman, Kyle Clark, and Mitchell Clark. She was blessed with five great-grandchildren, Kelsey Gibson, Michael Kelley, Thomas Gibson, Jordan Thornhill, and Elijah Clark. She is also survived by her sister, Isabelle M. Webster. Ruth was known for her spirituality and her great love for her family. She was gentle, caring, compassionate, and loved the Lord. Her family will always be grateful for all the wonderful lessons she taught us in life. Ruth always believed that families came first and we hope that everyone else follows this important lesson and keeps their families close at heart. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at the Lotz Funeral Home, Vinton Chapel. Burial to follow at Amos Family Cemetery in Boones Mill. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at the funeral home.
