On May 23, 2009, Laurel went to be with her heavenly father. She was born June 23, 1927, in Austin, Minn., to Merlin and Alta Alexander. Laurel lived on an Iowa farm while growing up. Because of severe asthma, she moved to Colorado where she graduated from Loveland High School. She then attended and graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colo.

She taught home economics and science for 30 years in Folsom, Calif.; Fort Davis, Texas; Marfa, Texas; Valentine, Texas; Van Horn, Texas; Imperial, Texas; and Talpa, Texas. Laurel volunteered for many activities in the Methodist Church and her community and served as a cheerleader sponsor in many of the schools where she taught.

After retiring from teaching she had great pleasure in spending time with her grandchildren and writing the cookbook " Mom's Groovy Gravy and Other Great Recipes." She had great pleasure in distributing her cookbook for family, ex-students and friends.

Laurel married her devoted husband, Britain R. Webb, in Sacramento, Calif., and they have been married for 58 years. Laurel has four children: Diane Miller of Dripping Springs, Texas; James Webb of Marfa, Texas; Robert Webb (deceased); and Krista Webb of Round Rock, Texas. She has one son-in-law, Walter Miller of Dripping Springs, Texas. Laurel has five grandchildren, Wesley Citty of Corpus Christi, Ryan Miller of Dripping Springs, Kesha Vasquez, Clarissa Vasquez, and Isaiah Hill, all of Round Rock. She has one brother, Albert Alexander of Burkburnett, Texas.

Laurel was preceded in death by her parents, Merlin and Alta Alexander; brother Jessie Alexander, and son Robert Clay Webb.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 30, at the United Methodist Church in Marfa, Texas. Burial will follow in the Marfa Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel of Odessa.
