Joseph D. R. Brown was the son of J. R. and Zenith (Ross) Brown. He can be found as J. D. R. Brown, age 37, in the 1898 Garfield, Washington Territorial Census. He was born in Delaware according to the 1920 Washington census. He and George Brown, born about 1857 in Kentucky, were boarding in Sultan, Washington with the Frank Calwell family. They were not brothers as their parents' birthplaces were different; but their actual relationship is unknown. Joseph listed his occupation as Trapper.

Company "A" of 35th U.S. Volunteer Infantry.

He was married to Bessie V. per his death record.

Mr. Brown passed away age 68 years on January 31, 1930 at the Veterans' Home.
