OBITUARY
Adam Craney was born October 12, 1892. As a very small child he was one of a large number of orphan children who were brought from New York City to Nebraska City, Nebraska to be placed in foster homes. Adam was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Craney, who at that time were residents of the Nebraska City area, and he was baptized a Catholic.
The Craney family later moved to a farm owned by the Wm. Kershaws near Sterling, Nebr., and Mr. Craney worked for the Kershaws for many years. Adam attended the rural schools near by.
After his father's death in 1917 Adam and his mother moved to Tecumseh, Nebraska where they lived until her death in 1935. During that time Adam worked on various farms in that vicinity.
He then moved to Lincoln, Nebraska and was employed as caretaker at the Country Club until his health began to fail and he retired.
In June of this year he had major surgery and he passed away in a nursing home in Lincoln Sept. 15, 1971, at the age of 78 years, 11 months and 3 days. The cause of death was cancer.
Surviving relatives are Mrs. Mae Morrissey and Anna Craney of Fremont, Nebr., Hugh Craney of Yankton, South Dakota, Lawrence Murphy of Lansing, Ill., and several distant cousins.
Funeral services were held in the Catholic church in Tecumseh Saturday morning, Sept. 18, with Father Halligan officiating. Pallbearers were Hubert Tuscott, Harold Truscott, James Turscott, Richard Shea, Charles Gordon and Edwin Nealy. Interment was in St. Andrew's cemetery with Zink Mortuary in charge.
