Victoria Ayers Black sketch from a history compiled by great-granddaughter, Ruth Warnick Whipperman.

Victoria Ayer's father died, March 14, 1852, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, just as the family was getting ready to cross the Plains. She was eleven years old at the time, and came West with her mother and six other children.

Victoria married William Valentine Black, as his second wife, before she was eighteen years of age. She was the mother of fourteen children, and also raised nine children of her sister, after her sister died. That was a total of twenty-three children to care for. When her mother became widowed for the second time, she moved in with Victoria and William until she died. About the same time as her mother's death, her husband became helpless, and she had his total care until her death, March 27, 1924, from overwork.
