-Esther M. Amos, 85, passed away March 15, 2008, at her home in Blanchard, Idaho. Esther was born in Spirit Lake, Sept. 11, 1922, to Lee and Florence Heisner. Esther, her sister and parents traveled a lot when she was young, she always said that when she married she would stay in one place; and she did just that. Esther married Allen R. Amos July 1, 1939, had two children and lived in the same house for 68 years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
-Esther cooked in the logging camps for several years, mostly in the St. Joe River area. She was an awesome cook, the loggers to this day, compliment her on her cooking. After she retired, she continued to cook like she was still cooking for all of those lumber jacks, the family Sunday dinners were unbelievable. She loved it at camp; she loved the outdoors and the beauty of the St. Joe River area. She met many lifelong friends during those times and continued to stay in contact, up until her passing. She had many stories and experiences to tell and treasured those times immensely.
-Esther was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, she enjoyed knitting, crafting, reading and spending time with family and friends. Everyone who knew Esther loved her. She will be missed by many.
-She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Shields, her son and his wife, Gordon and Sharon Amos; grandchildren: Virgil Shields, Mellisa Boler, Terrina Garcia, Kris Jacobsen; great-grandchildren: Tommy Opland, Anthony Johnson, Tyler and Kaylie Boler, Drew, Kate, Ruby Jacobsen and Matthew Quilin; stepgrandchildren: Rob Amos, Rena Clark and Shawn Garrett; stepgreat-grandchildren: Rob and Michelle Amos, Tahnie and Joslyn Clark, Brooke and Chad Garrett and Meagan and Carly Garcia.
-She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Allen Amos; her parents, Lee and Florence Heisner and her sister, Ellen Sheppard.
-A memorial service will be held at the Spirit Lake VFW Hall at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 6, 2008. At her request, Esther will be cremated and her ashes to be interred with her husband, Allen at the Spirit Lake Cemetery at a later date.
