Juanita (Jane) Roybal Byrd, daughter of Julio & Anita Gonzales Roybal a pioneer family from El Macho NM, passed away at her Pecos NM home on April 30, 1994.
She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Byrd, sisters Elvira, Pablita and Fedelina (Lena).
Mrs. Byrd is survived by her daughter Annabelle Keller, her son, Fred Lopez and wife Marie. Grandchildren, Rose Hare and husband David, John Keller and wife Gabe, Frank Keller, Amy Lopez and Jeromy Lopez, two great grandchildren, Elizabeth and Brian Hare and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Byrd received her teaching degree from Highlands University and studied in Mexico City, Mexico. She dedicated most of her life to teaching in the Pecos Public School system, starting in the rural communities in a one room schoolhouse she taught in Macho. She taught elementary school for over 30 years and was involved with the 4-H Club.
Mrs. Byrd was a parishioner of St. Anthony's Catholic Parish in Pecos where she participated in the Altar Society and home bible study. She was active with the Pecos Senior Citizens Group.
A rosary was recited Monday evening at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00a.m. today at St. Anthonys Catholic Church.
Interment will follow at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church Cemetery in El Macho, NM
