Alta M. Abney, 91, of 25th Street, died at 8:20 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002, at Columbus Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Abney was a member of the Baptist faith.

Graveside funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Daugherty Cemetery with the Rev. Dale Goddard officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Barkes, Inlow & Weaver Funeral Home on Washington Street.

Mrs. Abney was born May 22, 1910, in Bartholomew County, the daughter of James A. and Rozella Knotts Brinker. She married James Abney, who preceded her in death.

Survivors include sons, Kenneth, Dean and Richard Gearhart and James Abney, all of Columbus, and Lee Gearhart of Miami; daughters, Nancy Setser of Columbus and Jeanne K. Abney of Franklin; and several grandchildren and great–grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by sons, Gerald and Jack Gearhart; brothers, Charles, Ray and Dalt Brinker; and sisters, Ivy Miller, Irene Booker and Myrtle Tetrick.
