SPANISH AMERICAN WAR VETERAN

Gustaf Axel (Olson) Bondy was born December 20, 1874 in Vebro, Dalarna, Sweden. He did not list parent names on his Veterans Home application but the name Olson was put in parens and may be his father's name. He stood five foot ten inches tall.

MILITARY RECORD:
Enlisted June 1, 1895 at Minneapolis, Minnesota. Assigned to Company "D" of 8th Regiment Army Cavalry. Discharged on May 31, 1898 at Fort Meade, South Dakota with rank of Private. Pension awarded on Certificate No. C-19-047-902.

He married Elizabeth Holm on August 28, 1917. They were members of the Veterans' Home in Retsil. He died there on October 23, 1965 and was buried in the Home Cemetery.

His obituary was published in the Bremerton Sun newspaper:
G. A. Bondy, 90, a retired Seattle and Alaska attorney, died Saturday at the Washington Veterans' Home in Retsil.
He was born in Sweden and came to this country in 1893. Mr. Bondy graduated from the University of Washington School of Law in 1909 and later served as a U.S. Commissioner at Ruby, Alaska.
He practiced law at Fairbanks for many years and returned to Seattle in the 1940s. He retired four years ago.
Mr. Bondy was a member of Fortson Thygensen Camp 2, United Spanish-American War Veterans and the Alaska-Yukon Pioneers of Seattle.
Besides his wife, Elizabeth H., of Tacoma, survivors include two sons, Fred, also of Tacoma, and Lorenz, of Encino, Calif.; and six grandchildren.
Services will be held at the Veterans' Hme in Retsil.
