MRS. W. HORD DIED 9:30 A.M. AT HOME SUNDAY

RESIDENT OF TAYLORVILLE FOR 33 YEARS WILL BE BURIED TUESDAY AFTERNOON

Mrs. Walter Hord, 54, well known woman of this city died at 9:30 o'clock Sunday morning at her home at 502 West Maple Street. She became ill five days ago, suffering from pleurisy. A few days later plural pneumonia developed, which resulted in her death.

Mrs. Hord's maiden name was Miss Abigail Gertrude Oller. She was born July 1, 1872 in Greenwood Township, Christian County, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Oller. Thirty-three years ago she came to Taylorville, with her parents, and had since made this city her home. She had spent her entire life in Christian County.

On December 25, 1895 she was united in marriage in Taylorville to Walter Hord. To this union five children were born, two dying in infancy. Mrs. Hord was a member of the Christian Church of this city. She was also a prominent member of the Lady Maccabee Lodge.

She is survived by her husband and three children, Minor, Preston and Lillian, all at home. She also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Eliza Vonachen, Rock Island, Mrs. Rosie Padgett, Jacksonville and six brothers; George Oller, Witt; Samuel, Charles and William Oller, all of Coldwater, Kansas; John Oller, Omaha, Nebraska, and James Oller, Tovey.

The funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Christian Church. The Rev. L. G. Huff, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

There are two children buried with Walter and Abigail Hord in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville, Illinois. One is a daughter, Geneva who died at the age of eight. The other child is just listed in the cemetery records as an infant of W. M. Hord. As you can see on the photograph, her tombstone has born worn smooth and the inscriptions cannot be read. In the fall of 2009 the tombstone had fallen and was lying on the ground.
