John Parker Bowman was born January 16, 1837 in Fayette county, Kentucky the son of William Bowman and Nancy Todd Parker. He was a grandson of Colonel Abraham Bowman who fought in the Revolution.

He enlisted in the Missouri State Guard, December 31, 1861.

Lt. Colonel John Parker Bowman, Missouri State Guard, died on retreat from Elkhorn Tavern.

He is buried in William Stovall's plot. There is no marker.

His children are as follows:

Isabella Bowman, married George Mountjoy.
John C. Bowman, died in 1858, Lexington, Missouri.
Edwin Forest Bowman, died in 1930, St. Louis.
Frank Graves, died in 1930, Lexington, Missouri.
Clifton Bowman, last seen on 1880 census.
