Susannah Brainard of East Haddam, Middlesex Co., Conn., b. June 21, 1772, dau. of Daniel and Prudence (Gridley) Brainerd; m., May 18. 1791, Timothy Gates, Jun., b. Sept. 20, 1763, in East Haddam. Conn., son of Timothy and Hannah (Percival) Gates of the same place. He succeeded his father in the office of town clerk and treasurer, and was reelected every year thereafter till his death. Mr. Timothy Gates d. April 4, 1814 in his 51st yr. Mrs. Susannah (Brainard) Gates d. Dec. 14, 1846, in her 75th yr.

2) Maria, b. Feb. 15, 1796. in East Haddam. Conn.
3) Sylvester, b. July 7. 1798, in East Haddam, Conn.; m. Jan. 15, 1839, his cousin. Sarah or Sally Gleason of Avon, Conn., b. Jan. 16, 1804, in Farmington. Conn., dau. of Ebenezer Steele and Prudence (Brainard) Gleason. He resided in East Haddam on the homestead of his father and grand father. He d. Oct. 19, 1863.
4) Alfred, b. Feb. 7, 1802, in East Haddam. Conn.; m. March 29, 1832, Maria Swan. He d. June 20, 1863.
5) Prudence Emeline, b. May 3. 1805, in East Haddam. Conn., m. Sept. 20, 1825. Edward Langdon of Plymouth.
