Vera Marie Groner, 96, of St. Paul, Kansas, died at 9:50 p.m., Friday, May 8, 2009, at Prairie Mission Retirement Village in St. Paul, Kansas.

She was born July 1, 1912, in St. Paul, Kansas, to Edward A. and Agnes E. (Long) George.

She grew up and attended schools in St. Paul where she graduated from St. Francis High School in 1929.

Following high school graduation, she taught three years at Moriarity country school.

On February 12, 1934, she and Eugene A. "Gene" Groner were married in St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul, Kansas. He preceded her in death July 14, 1999.

Through the years, she worked as assistant cashier at Exchange State Bank in St. Paul, and also served as secretary to both the St. Paul School Board and St. Francis Rectory.

She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, the Altar Society, and Daughters of Isabella.

Survivors include one son, Gary A. Groner and wife, Pam, of Leon, KS; two daughters, Jolene Born and husband, John, of Wichita, KS, and Jean Breton and husband, John, of Austin, TX; a son-in-law, Marty Kinney of Oklahoma City, OK; 15 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers; four sisters; three children; and one granddaughter.

The funeral Mass is scheduled for Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul, Kansas. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Prairie Mission Retirement Village, or to Hospice Compassus of Pittsburg, KS. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.
