Edward emigrated from England in 1849 and settled in Indianapolis, Indiana where he manufactured boilers. The first company was Kelshaw & Sinker, followed by Dumont & Sinker. He also manufactured coal oil lamps trading as Pratt & Sinker. Later he partnered with Daniel Yandes trading as the Western Machine Works and finally it became the Sinker-Davis Company which traded until the 1950's.

The marker has that he died in 1872 but he did die in 1871.
