Son of the late James and Jessie Golden Carpenter. Husband of Emily E Duda and father of six children. Farmington resident. His widow, known as "Cookie", has since married a Tennant. Lee was a veteran of the Korean War. And a member of the UMWA Local 4042. He was employed by Consol Coal Farmington #9 for 2 years where he was a mechanic when the explosion happened. His body was recovered March 13, 1974. He was one of 59 men recovered, and one of 78 men who died in this disaster, which led to the passage of Federal Coal Mine Health and Safety Act of 1969.
