July 30, 1942: Two bodies were spotted near Matinicus Island, Maine. One body was recovered and found with life preserver and numbered keys in pocket that could not be identified. The man wore shoes, stockings and a coat, but no pantaloons.

The man was heavy built weighing approximately 200 pounds and about six feet tall. The age was between 45-50.

Body was brought to the public landing in Rockland, Maine and buried on July 31, 1942 at the City Farm Cemetery, 3rd grave in back row.

The medical examiner, H.J. Weisman determined that the date of death was about June 1942.

The second body was washed away by the tide.

Thought to be from one or more merchant ships sunk by German U-boats during WWII.
