LONG TIME PARK PROPERTY OWNER DIED AT SPENCER

Mrs. Minnie R. Allen, 73 years, owner and operator of the Allendale resort propery on highway No. 71 at Arnolds Park, passed away early Monday morning at the Spencer hospital. Mrs. Allen suffered a stroke on Thursday, March 4th, and was removed to the hospital from the Ashley hotel in Spencer. She had been spending some time at Excelsior Springs, Mo., and it had been her habit to stop at the hotel in Spencer in the fall after closing her home at the Park and in the spring upon her return while her home was being put in readiness for occupancy.

Mrs. Allen had been a resident of Arnolds Park for around fifty years and was widely known throughout this territory as the operator of the Allendale cottages and resort.

She was a member of the Okoboji Lakes unit, American Legion Auxiliary, and had been a member of the Spirit Lake unit before the unit was organized at Arnolds Park. Her eligibility to the organization was through her son, Hugh Allen, who died of the flu during World War I. Mrs Allen had been honored a number of times by both units as a Gold Star Mother.

She is survived by a brother, Phrone Ring of Manson, Iowa, and a sister, Mrs O.A. Turtelette of Tabor, Iowa, and by a niece, Inez McNeil of Glendale, Calif., who came to Spencer by plane, reaching her aunt's side a few hours before the death. Mrs Allen was a niece of the late Lafe Ring of Arnolds Park.

Funeral services were held at the Cobb Funeral Home in Spencer on Wednesday afternoon, with burial beside her son Hugh, at the Okoboji Cemetery in Arnolds Park.
