1854 After an attempt to travel to Gold Mines in Calif; John,Jr. turned for home in Missouri; bring his family to Parker County Texas.
1860 Texas Census:John Jr. farmed, owning land near Springtown and the Wise Co. line.
Met his death at the hands of Comanche Indians. The Indians had stolen horses from the John Montgomery farm, and in pursuit he was shot through the heart; falling dead. The Indians even stole the horse he was riding. His 3 sons tracked the Indians down; recovering the stolen property.
