G.W. Locke was the youngest child born to John C. Locke and Elizabeth Bass. He married Roxy Ann Parthany Huggins Feb 22, 1883 in Fannin County, Texas. Five children were born to them: Jessie K., Arnold Lee, Roy Johnson, Esther Fae, and Mabel Savannah.

After the death of Roxy Ann, G.W. married the widow Mary Catherine Pruett Hatley Feb 25, 1899 in Brown County, Texas. Two children were born to this union: Alice L. and Rufus H.

A pioneer Brown County citizen G.W. Locke , 74, died at home of his son Roy J. Locke, three miles north of Zephyr at 7:00 o'clock Friday night . Mr. Locke had been a resident of the Zephyr community for 36 years, moving there from Grayson county in 1896. Funeral was held at Mercer's Gap cemetery with Rev. W.M. Scott , Brownwood, and Rev. J.D. Smoot, Comanche, officiating. White and London Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Mr. Locke was one of the men of that section of the county, being well loved and much respected.man, a leader in his community with many friends. He had been a member of the Baptist Church for 74 years. He was born February 18, 1858.

Mr. Locke is survived by his wife, four daughters and 3 sons. The children are Mrs. Jessie K. Cornelius, Zephyr; Mrs.Esther Carr, Blythe California; Miss Mable Locke of Amarillo; Mrs.Alice Nowlin,Tahola; Lee Locke, Brownwood; Roy J. Locke, Zephyr; R.H. Locke, Hereford. He is also survived by three stepsons: Vester Hatley, Corpus Christi; Chris Columbus Hatley, Carlton; and Levie Hatley, Hereford.

Twenty one grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren also survive. The grandchildren : Milford, Silas, Soloman, Noah, Ruby, ,Rolen, Olen and Darwin Cornelius; Pearl Lester; Nettie Arnold; A.L., Geraldine, Herald, Herman, Arvel, DeAlva and Winnie Louise Locke; Nina and Ford Carr. Grand children acted as pall bearers.
