Allen Hinchman, 79 years old, a well known citizen of Rush County died this morning at four o'clock at the home of his son, Grant Hinchman, near Fairview. Mr. Hinchman had been ill for a long time suffering from a complication of diseases and his death was not unexpected.
Mr. Hinchman lived in Rushville until almost three years ago, when after the death of his wife he went to make his home with his son. Allen Hinchman was born in Union Township, February 3, 1836, an had been a resident of Rush county all his life. He took a prominent part in the affairs of Union township and was elected on the Republican ticket to the board of commissioners. He also served several terms as trustee of Union township.
He was the son of the late John and Margaret Hinchman, natives of Virginia, who settled in Rush county in 1823. His father entered a tract of land and this now known as the old Hinchman homestead. Allen Hinchman by degrees climbed the ladder of prosperity and by industry and perserverance made a success in life. Mr. Hinchman was married December 22, 1858 to Nancy Moffett, of Fayette County. Mrs. Hinchman has been dead about three years. Mr. Hinchman was a member of the Christian church.
He is survived by two children, Grant Hinchman, at whose home he died, and Mrs. Minnie Rich. He is also survived by four brothers, Sant Hinchman, Marshall Hinchman, Ira Hinchman of Indianapolis, and Morris Hinchman of Greenfield.
The funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at two o'clock at the Hinchman residence near Fairview and burial will take place in East Hill Cemetery.
