Funeral services for James Louis Barwick, 92, of Adrian were held in the Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31 with the Rev. H.G. Ridgdill officiating. Burial was in Westview Cemetery, Soperton. He died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009.

Mr. Barwick was born in Emanuel County and was preceded in death by his parents, Lint and Veta Herrman Barwick, and his wife, Kate Thompson Barwick.

During World War II he served as a Staff Sergeant in the US Army where he received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was a retired farmer and a member of Emanuel Church of the Nazarene, Adrian.

Survivors include two sons, Michael Barwick of Griffin, and Neil (Patrice) Barwick of Calhoun; one daughter, Carol (Cliff) Miller of Evans; one brother, Elliott Barwick of Adrian; two sisters, Nell Pearce of Tampa, Fla and Betty Tison of Columbia, SC; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Michael Linton Barwick, Brent Selph, Aaron Hurst, Andy Thompson, Greg Barwick and Jared Barwick.

Sammons funeral home in Soperton had charge of arrangements.
