HOOPER -- Genevieve Rigby Parker Johnston, 80, of Hooper, passed away Wednesday, December 5, 2001 at home of complications due to kidney failure. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. She was a loving mother, grandma, great grandma, sister and devoted wife. She was born January 16, 1921 in Hooper a daughter of Vern C. and Rita Rigby Parker. She married James M. Johnston December 4, 1940 in the Salt Lake Temple. He passed away July 29, 1990.
She lived her entire life in Hooper, attending Hooper Elementary and graduating from Weber High School and LDS Seminary. After raising her family she attended Weber State University and earned her B.S. in elementary education. She worked as a teacher"s aide and certified teacher for 25 years at Roy, Club Heights, and Hooper Elementary.
A woman of great faith, she was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in the Hooper 1st Ward where she worked in the Primary, Sunday School, Relief Society, and as a Jr. Sunday School coordinator, music director, and Stake Sunday School.
Genevieve was a member for many years of the Hooper Women"s Club and is a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She dearly loved music and enjoyed performing with the Hooper Hometown Players and Parker Sisters Singing Family. She enjoyed singing with the patients as a volunteer at the Heritage Park Care Center.
Her favorite hobby was a neat yard, which she kept up in a beautiful way. Working on the farm with the family and animals was a happy time in her life. Genevieve loved her husband and family unconditionally and cared about her friends and neighbors. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and a sister Dona (Vern) Taylor.
Surviving are one daughter Margie (Gary) Kite; and one son Lyle (Christy) Johnston, both of Hooper; 10 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are five sisters, Catherine Garner, Marion Allen, Florence (Joseph) Allen, Carol (Darwin) Jones, LaRae (Thomas) Ewing, all from Hooper.
Our family would like to express our appreciation to Dr. Harry O. Senekjian, staff, and others for their loving help over the years. There will be a sad emptiness in all of our hearts at her absence, but we will find comfort in many pleasant memories, especially our family Christmas Eve Party. We love you and will miss you very much. You will always be in our hearts and prayers.
