FERNANDO J. GIROUX 1911 - 2005

WATERVILLE -- Fernando J. Giroux, 94, died on Saturday, May 28, 2005, at Oak Grove Nursing Home.

He was born a twin in Waterville, one of nine children of Joseph and Odelie (Poulin) Giroux.

Educated in Waterville schools, Fernando work for Bath Iron Works during the war as a pipefitter; later he became a master plumber and finished his working years at Colby College. He was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He married his wife, Doris L. (Bard) Giroux, in October of 1936.

Fernando was predeceased by six siblings, Lionel, William, Eva, Stella, Antoinette and Fernand. Surviving, along with his wife of 68 years, Doris of Waterville, are a son, Ronald Giroux and his wife, Ellen, of Carlisle, Pa.; two daughters, Jean Ann and her husband, Mack Dolowitz, of Montreal, Quebec, and Linda and her husband, Travis Scogin, of Somersworth, N.H.; two sisters, Gabriel Gorski of Armonk, N.Y., and Jeanette Giroux of Cape Elizabeth; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours are 6-8 p.m. Monday, May 30, at Veilleux Funeral Home, 8 Elm St., Waterville 04901. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Waterville. Burial will follow in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, Waterville.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Fernando's memory may be made to: Servants of the Blessed Sacrament, 101 Silver St., Waterville 04901.
