She married Lewis Valentine Bockius on Septemeber 11, 1855.

"Injury Hastens Death of Venerable Matron"

Mrs. Caroline P. Bockius, 96, one of Canton's oldest residents and a member of one of the early representative families here, did in the old Bockius homestead, 711 Market Ave. N., Wednesday evening at 8pm. Until several weeks ago Mrs. Bockius was enjoying her usual good health and was active in her home. While waking in her room she slipped and fell, injuring her hip. Due to her advanced age, the injury was exceedingly serious. She took to her bed and never rallied. Her children were at her bedside almost constantly from the time she was taken ill, until her death. Mrs. Bockius was the widow of L.V. Bockius, pioneer shoe merchant and a director of the old Baltimore & Ohio. She had lived in Canton all her life and resided in the homestead in which she died practically all her married life.
Mrs. Bockius was born Nov 1830, on the farm of her father, John Graham, in Plain township, which is now a part of the Fulton road. The farm of several hundred acres was cleared by her father, who was one of the pioneers in this part of the country. Mrs. Bockius remained on the farm until her marriage to Mr. Bockius in 1855. At the time of their marriage they lived for a number of years in Market Ave S., near 3rd St., adjoining the Saxton property, where Mrs. William McKinley and Mrs. M.C. Barber resided. More than 40 years ago Mr. Bockius purchased the Market Ave. N. property from John Schilling, a Canton merchant. Mrs. Bockius was again the next door neighbor of Mrs. McKinley. By a singular coincidence, the McKinley and Bockius lots in Westlawn cemetery adjoin each other. Mrs. Bockius was not a club woman. Her chief interests during all her married life were her family and her home. She found her greatest joy in being surrounded by members of her family at family gatherings. Since the death of Mr. Bockius in 1899, she has spent the greater part of her time in her home. She made several trips to Washington to visit her daughter, Mrs. Pomerene, but the majority of her time was spent in the quiet of her living room. She was one of a family of 12 children. One brother, George Graham, is living in Kansas City, MO. Ex-Senator Atlee Pomerene, her son-on-law arrived in Canton from Cleveland Wednesday evening, and reached the Bockius home just several minutes before she died. Her son, Harry Bockius, of Los Angeles, who was in Canton for several weeks, returned to the west last Monday. Until recently she took an active interest in social affairs and was always present at the family gatherings of the Bockius families. Mrs. Bockius was the possessor of a keen mind and kept in constant touch with all current events of the day. During the time that Senator Atlee Pomerene, her son-in-law, held office in Washington, she was well informed on all the workings of the senate. She was also an expert needleworker and while seated in her favorite chair in the living room, wiled away many hours working on some exquisite bit of embroidery. Mrs. Bockius is survived by two daughters and four sons, Mrs. Katherine Bockius Brant, of the home; Mrs. Atlee Pomerene, now of Cleveland; Edward G., Charles and Fred Bockius, all of Canton, and Harry Bockius of Los Angeles. Three grandchildren also survive, Miss Margretta Bockius, and George and Louis Bockius, all of Canton. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2pm from the home. E.F. Esselburne will conduct the services. Burial will be made in the family lot at Westlawn cemetery.
