Bernice (Bowman) Bell a long-time resident of Sikeston, Scott, Missouri passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at the home of her daughter, Dorothy (Bell) Barnes in Portage, Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Born June 30, 1913 in Formosa, Van Buren, Arkansas, she was the oldest of two children born to the late Joseph E. "Joe" & Myrtle Jane "Mirtie" (Bryant) Bowman.

Granddaughter of the late Owen M. & Armenta Organ "Aggie" (Winningham) Bowman and the late James Monroe "Jim" & Roxie Ann (Gordon) Bryant.

On September 13, 1930 she married Doy Walton Bell who proceeded her in death on January 1, 1983.

Bernice grew up in Formosa and in the mid 30's moved to Southern Missouri where she was a homemaker. A devote christian and a member of the Shady Acres Church of Christ in Sikeston, Missouri. A beloved mother, loving grandmother and cherished Great Grandmother whom always looked over our faults, encouraged our dreams and praised our every success. She was an Angel of a mother-in-law to her daughter-in-laws; Jewell, Carolyn, Jeannette, Debbie, Linda and son-in-law Melvin. She will always be fondly remembered for her warmth & devotion to her family and friends.

She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter; Dorothy (Bell) Barnes of Portage, Kalamazoo, Michigan and five sons; Steve Vernon Bell of Dexter, Missouri, Joe Tom Bell of Douglas, Coffee, Georgia, James Chester Bell of Sikeston, Missouri, Charles Dale Bell of Dexter, Missouri, Kenneth Ray Bell of Bell City, Missouri, 18 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 14 great great grandchildren and one brother; James Melankton "Lank" Bowman of Mabelvale, Arkansas.

She was proceeded in death by one son-in-law; Bo Clay and one daughter-in-law; Ethel Mae (Duckworth) Bell, three grandchildren; Ruth Ann (Bell) Jowers, Mary Denise Bell and Susan Leigh Bell, two Great Grandchildren; Christoper Gerald Heuring and Jerod Alan Gibson.

Visitation will be Tuesday, May 18, from 5:00-8:00pm at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel, where services will be held Wednesday at 10:30am, with Johnny Hester and Pat Hogan, ministers of Shady Acres Church of Christ officiating.

Burial will follow at Dexter Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Steve Bell Jr., Greg Bell, Bryan Bell, Nathan Bell, Zach Bell, Randy Clay, Mark Clay and Terry Clay.
