William Gerard "Jerry" Bega, 48, a lifelong resident of Scranton, died unexpectedly Monday morning in Moses Taylor Hospital.

Born April 7, 1953, in Scranton, he was a son of Anna Rita Shimo Bega, Scranton, and the late William S. Bega, who died Nov. 14, 1981. He was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School and was employed by Herff Jones Inc., Scott Industrial Park. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Scranton, the Fishing Club of America and was a social member of the Rebiega-Gorgol Post 3451, Veterans of Foreign Wars, South Scranton.
He enjoyed fishing and ice fishing and was an avid NASCAR fan.
He was the companion of Regina "Reggie" Lilly, Scranton.
Also surviving are a sister, Ann Marie Arcure, Clarks Summit; a brother, Michael B., York; maternal grandmother, Anna Shimo, Scranton; a niece, two nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, John Shimo; and paternal grandparents, Stephen and Mary Morohovech Bega.
The funeral will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. from the Miller Bean Funeral Home Inc., 436 Cedar Ave., with services at 11 in Holy Name of Jesus Church, East Mountain section. Cremation, Maple Hill Crematory.
Friends may call today, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
