William Little Ijames was a railroader in Virginia and stayed at a boarding house where Josephine Reeves Wells (who later became his wife) was a cook. He fell off the roof while roofing it, broke his leg and died of complications--pneumonia. Left his wife with 6 children to raise. Joseph's body was shipped back to North Carolina for burial.
